Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence.
For members of our Roman Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59, with exceptions for reasons of illness, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal.
The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of our Roman Catholic Church from age 14 onwards, with exceptions as stated above (illness, pregnancy, and breastfeeding).

You are Chosen - Called by Name!
This Lent, we invite you to join a special 6-week faith-sharing initiative inspired by Season 2 of The Chosen, a TV series about the life of Christ. Through viewing The Chosen and coming together to reflect and share in small groups each week, we hope to deepen our love for Jesus and each other, making this a truly meaningful and fruitful Lent.
In the words of the program's creator, Dallas Jenkins, "We believe that if you can see Jesus through the eyes of those who met him, you can be changed and impacted in the same way they were. If we can connect you with their burdens and struggles and questions, then ideally, we can connect you to the solution, to the answer to those questions."
We will be creating small groups for you to join; however, if you are currently part of a faith-sharing group, we invite you to adopt this program over Lent. Perhaps you will reconvene with the group you were part of last year for Season !
This Lent, we call you by name, for we are all "the chosen". We invite you to be part of this powerful Lenten experience. We look forward to walking this Lenten journey with you!

Will you join us for an hour to 90 minutes on this journey each week? Please email [email protected] with interest and questions.
As we approach the Lenten season, young adults are invited to spend some quiet time in prayer. On Saturday, March 21, 9 am - 5 pm, we will have a Lenten Retreat at St. Joseph Retreat House in Milton. We will reflect on the theme "United in Passion: Meditations on the Passion of Christ". Our speaker will be Conan Rainwater, S.J., a deacon and graduate student from Boston College Clough School of Theology and Ministry.
Limited slots available.

Lenten Reflections from the Archdiocese of Boston
February 22: First Sunday of Lent
The first Sunday of Lent always begins with the reminder that Jesus was tempted, just as we are. Rather than giving in to the temptations, Jesus recognized that there could be no compromise in the message he needed to preach and in the faith he demanded. The readings on this first Sunday in Lent invite us to take time to look at our own lives and to consider the temptations we confront and that threaten to draw us away from God and from the light of Christ. Every prayer we offer, every fast we undertake, and every small sacrifice we make this Lent will lead us to the cross, the cross of victory over death. Spend time this Lent with Jesus, asking for help to overcome temptation and recognize the power of Jesus’ resurrection.
March 1 ~ Second Sunday in Lent
In today’s gospel, the story of the Transfiguration, we are given a glimpse of divine glory. The instruction given to the disciples and each of us is meant to give us hope of what awaits us, life with God. Eternal life is what we strive for and why we give time and energy during Lent for fasting, prayer and acts of charity. When we actively observe these practices, we experience a spiritual transfiguration that aids us when faced with struggles or temptations in our daily lives. We listen to Christ’s voice and follow him, so that we may be courageous messengers of God’s love and of the life that awaits us in heaven.
Jesus, Bread of Life,
As we encounter you in the Eucharist this Lent,
nourish us with your love,
unite us in communion with our sisters and brothers,
showing us how we are connected.
Transform our hearts, that we may be moved to share bread for life with our global family and work for a world where all can thrive.
