Every three years, the Archdiocese of Boston asks Sacred Heart and Our Lady’s to select a lay person from each parish who “has served the parish well over an extended period of time and who has done so in a quiet, unassuming and, perhaps, unrecognized fashion.” This year, the staff has selected Kathie Long from Sacred Heart and Chris Graf from Our Lady’s to receive the award from Archbishop Henning at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross on November 23, and we are deeply grateful to them for their outstanding service to our community and to the whole Church.
Kathie Long has served the Church in Newton for decades - 18 years at Sacred Heart and decades before that at St. Philip Neri. She is a stalwart of hospitality in the parish, always noticing and reaching out to new faces in our midst. She is selflessly committed to the Guild of St.Francis, St. Vincent de Paul, Outreach to You, and the Christ Child Society of the archdiocese. She has also served on Pastoral Council.
Chris Graf has been selflessly dedicated to Our Lady’s for more than 35 years. She serves on the finance council, as a liturgical coordinator, as a religious education catechist, as a visitor to the homebound, on the Cursillo leadership team. Previously, she’s been on the Pastoral Council and in the choir. We rely on Chris for everything from making sure altar candles are stocked and vestments are cleaned to advising on budgets and forming students in the faith.
Please join Fr. Dan and the Staff in congratulating and thanking Kathie and Chris!
